Emerging Voices in LA

The first two Fridays of the month offer an excellent opportunity to catch some exciting new voices on the Los Angeles literary scene:

  • Friday, Aug 1 at 7:30pm, the PEN Center USA (which does great work fostering diverse literary culture and supporting freedom of expression) presents an evening of final readings showcasing their 2008 Emerging Voices Fellows. If writer Libby Flores (who I heard read at Tin House) is any indication, it should be a great evening. Kirk Douglas Theater, 9820 Washington Blvd, Culver City
  • Friday, Aug 8 at 8pm, the New Short Fiction Series presents their 5th Annual Emerging Voices show, with local stage and screen actors (including cast members from My Name is Earl, Criminal Minds, and Gilmore Girls) reading short fiction by six different authors, three of whom I’ve had the pleasure of studying with. Beverly Hills Public Library, 444 North Rexford Drive, Beverly Hills
